Lisa Kinkead Gasteen, born on November 13, 1957, in Brisbane, Australia, is an operatic soprano known for her performances of Wagner's works. She studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and won the Australian Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in 1982. Gasteen made her operatic debut in 1985 with Lyric Opera of Queensland as the High Priestess in Aida. She gained international recognition after winning the Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 1991, leading to performances with prestigious companies such as Welsh National Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin. Gasteen made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1997 as Aida and has since performed notable roles including Leonora in Il trovatore and Brünnhilde in Siegfried. She received multiple Helpmann Awards for her performances as Isolde and Brünnhilde.
