Nikos Xylouris, born on July 7, 1936, in Anogeia, Mylopotamos, Rethymno, Greece, was a composer and singer known for his contributions to traditional Cretan music. Xylouris' musical journey started when he acquired a Cretan Lyra at twelve, performing at local events often accompanied by his brother Giannis on the lute. In 1967, Xylouris helped establish the first exclusively Cretan folk music hall in Heraklion, named Erotokritos, which catered to rural Cretans visiting the city. His discography includes the albums Mia mavrofora otan perna (A Woman in Black Passed By) in 1958, Anyfantou (Unwoven) in 1969, and Dialeimma (Intermission) in 1972. He died on February 8, 1980 in Piraeus, Attica, Greece.
