Lilys, an American indie rock group formed in Washington, D.C. in 1988, emerged from a rotating lineup centered on Kurt Heasley. The group released their first album, In the Presence of Nothing, in 1992 and followed it with the mini-album A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns. A breakthrough arrived in 1996 when the single "A Nanny in Manhattan" gained international attention, reaching number 16 on the UK charts after being featured in a Leviâs advertisement directed by Roman Coppola. Throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, Lilys released a series of albums, including The 3 Way (1999), Precollection (2003), and Everything Wrong is Imaginary (2006). Collaborations with artists including Nobody, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Apples in Stereo broadened their reach. The bandâs discography reflects a continual shift between mod revival, psychedelic rock, and shoegaze.
