Pianist, songwriter, and producer Lesette Wilson was born in Queens, New York. While she had recorded a few Latin/salsa albums in the late 1970s, she came to prominence as the keyboardist on trumpeter Tom Browneâs jazz fusion album Love Approach (1980), which featured the hit âFunkinâ for Jamaica.â The release of the album raised her commercial profile and she was offered a solo recording deal by Headfirst Records. She released her debut album Now That I've Got Your Attention in 1981. The album featured the single âCaveman Boogie,â which has become a rare groove/funk classic over the years. Lesette Wilson continued working behind the scenes, playing keyboards on Roy Ayersâ Africa, Center of the World album. She also co-wrote and produced Meliâsa Morganâs albums Do Me Baby (1986) and Good Love (1987). Lesette Wilson released her second solo album, Unmasked, in 1993. The album featuring guest vocals from Tonni Smith, the lead vocalist on Tom Browneâs âFunkinâ for Jamaicaâ twelve years earlier. Lesette Wilsonâs third album, Livinâ in the Zone, was released in 2001.
