Biography

Leif Vollebekk, born in Ottawa, Ontario in 2010, is a Canadian indie folk singer‑songwriter of Norwegian and French descent who began playing violin, guitar and piano as a child. After studying philosophy at the University of Ottawa and spending time in Iceland, he moved to Montreal to pursue music. His debut album, Inland (2010), was released on Nevado Records and incorporated songs written during his Icelandic trip. In 2013 he released North Americana on Outside Music, a record that earned a Juno nomination and generated tens of millions of streams. Signing with Secret City Records, he issued Twin Solitude (2017), which was shortlisted for the 2017 Polaris Music Prize and nominated for the 2018 Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year; the album was supported by extensive North American and European touring. His fourth album, New Ways (2019), featured the single "Hot Tears" as an Atwood Magazine Editor's Pick. In 2024 he released Revelation, mixed by Tchad Blake and mastered by Greg Calbi, and the single "Into the Ether" from Twin Solitude appeared in an AppleTV+ series episode; Revelation received a 2025 Juno nomination for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.
