Biography
Lars Haagensen, also known as Lars H.U.G., was born on September 11, 1953, in Sorgenfri, Denmark, and is a Danish singer, musician, and visual artist. He began his music career performing with the group Kliché, which formed in 1977 and released two albums before disbanding in 1985. During a break from Kliché, H.U.G. released his first solo album, City Slang, in 1984, collaborating with Søren Ulrik Thomsen. In 1993, he became the first rock musician to receive a work grant from the Danish Arts Foundation and was nominated for a lifetime performance award by the foundation in 2003. Notable albums include Save Me from this Rock 'N' Roll (2003). His final album, 10 Sekunders Stilhed (2014), received gold certification. In addition to his musical career, he is also a painter who has exhibited his work internationally. He announced his retirement as a musician at the Crown Prince Couple's Awards in 2016.
