Biography

Lalo Rodríguez is the stage name of Ubaldo Rodríguez Santos, a Puerto Rican salsa singer who rose to fame in the late '80s with the hit single "Ven, Devórame Otra Vez." Born on May 16, 1958, in Carolina, Puerto Rico, he got his start as a singer at a very young age, performing in local festivals and radio shows. In 1973, he joined Eddie Palmieri's band and sang on the composer's 1974 Grammy Award-winning LP, The Sun of Latin Music, as well as on its follow-up, 1975's Unfinished Masterpiece. In 1980, he launched his solo career with the album Simplemente... Lalo, followed by Nuevamente... Lalo (1982), El Niño, el Hombre, el Soñador, el Loco (1985), and Punto y Coma (1987). Included in his 1988 full-length Un Nuevo Despertar, the erotic-tinged single "Ven, Devórame Otra Vez" solidified him as one of the most popular exponents of the salsa romántica movement, reaching Number 10 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart and winning Tropical Song of the Year at the 1989 Lo Nuestro Awards. He continued to record and perform during the '90s, delivering albums like Sexsacional..! (1989), De Vuelta en la Trampa (1992), and the platinum-selling Nací Para Cantar (1994). Following a long recording hiatus that began right after 1996's Estoy Aquí, Lalo Rodríguez returned in 2013 with the LP Con Todo Mi Corazón.
