Biography

La'cryma Christi, a Japanese visual kei rock band, were formed in Osaka in 1991 by vocalist Taka and guitarist Hiro. Initially known as Strippe-D Lady, the band underwent several line-up changes before settling on their classic formation with Taka, Hiro, Koji (guitar), Levin (drums), and Shuse (bass) in 1994. They released their first single, "Siam's Eye", that same year under a local indie label. They moved to Tokyo in 1996 after the release of their mini-album Warm Snow. In 1997, they signed with Polydor Records and made their major label debut with "Ivory Trees" and the 2nd single, "The Scent", was released on July 30, 1997. Their single "Mirai Kōro" reached number three on the Oricon singles chart and was used as the ending theme for the anime Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective. The band launched their own label, Majestic Ring, in 2003, and continued to release albums until calling it quits in 2007. La'cryma Christi reunited for several tours between 2009 and 2013. Rhythm guitarist Koji died from cancer in April 2022. The surviving members performed live in 2025.
