Ophir Kutiel, known professionally as Kutiman, is an Israeli musician, composer, and producer who was born in 1982 in Jerusalem. He began piano studies at age six and later learned to play percussion, guitar, and bass. In 2003, Kutiel traveled to Jamaica to explore reggae music and worked with Stephen and Damian Marley. He achieved a breakthrough in 2006 after signing with Melting Pot Music and releasing the single âNo Groove Where I Come Fromâ (2006). His eponymous debut studio album, Kutiman, was released (2007) and received critical acclaim from Pitchfork Media and PopMatters. Kutiman is famous for the audiovisual project Thru You (2009), a collection of YouTube mashups that Time Magazine named one of the 50 best inventions of the year. In 2014, he was nominated for a Webby Award for the video project âThru Tokyoâ (2014). His discography includes the single âDover. Dâ (2012) and the studio album 6AM (2015).
