Biography

The members—Jacqueline Govaert (vocals), Anne Govaert and Annelies Kuijsters (guitar) and Joost van Haaren (bass guitar)—of Dutch alt-poppers Krezip formed in Tilburg in 1997 while they were all still at high school, with Thijs Romeijn eventually joining as the band's drummer. They released an independent EP called Run Around in 1999, which got them noticed by a number of record labels including Warner Music with whom they signed the following year. In 2000 they gained national exposure at the televised Pinkpop festival and released their first major-label album Nothing Less, recorded with producer Oscar Holleman, which went all the way to number one in the Netherlands and earned the band a 2001 Edison Award (equivalent to a Dutch Grammy). Their sophomore album Days Like These came in 2002 and spawned a couple of popular singles in "You Can Say" (number 18), "Promise" (number 16), and "Mine". After racking up several live tours including one supporting Bon Jovi in the Netherlands and another supporting Sheryl Crow during her tour of Germany and France, Bram van den Berg replaced Thijs Romeijn on drums and Jan Peter Hoekstra replaced Thomas Holthuis on guitar. After getting dropped by their label (when Warner Music forced Warner Music Benelux to cut their national roster), they signed with Sony BMG and released What Are You Waiting For? in 2005, which went to the top of the Dutch Mega Album Top 100. They tried on disco for size with the 2007 follow-up Plug It In but decided to call it quits two years later. They reunited in 2019, making their live comeback at Pinkpop 2019, and going to number two in the Netherlands with their new album Sweet High. In 2022 they released the single "Let Me Go Home". After the duet "Make It a Memory" with Danny Vera in 2022, the albums Any Day Now (2023) and Music for Máxima (2024) followed, the soundtrack of the television series Máxima including "I Will Go There" with Remme.
