Biography

The duo Krept & Konan was born from the meeting of Casyo Johnson (Krept) and Kari Wilson (Konan), sons of Jamaican singer Delroy Wilson (1948-1995). Introduced to each other in 2005 by a mutual friend, the two rappers from the Croydon district of South London teamed up with Krept's cousin Cadet to form the group Gipset. In 2010, a year after their debut as a duo, they released the mixtape Tsunami, which did not leave rap circles indifferent. The following year, Konan's mother was injured and his stepfather killed in an armed attack on their home. The duo recorded the track "My Story" with the help of Skepta, who hired them for his national tour. In 2013, the mixtape Young Kingz sees collaborations from Giggs, Chip and Tinie Tempah. The following year saw the release of their debut album The Long Way Home (ranked #2 in the UK charts), featuring appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross and Ed Sheeran. In 2015, the duo scored a major hit with the track "Freak of the Week", in collaboration with Jeremith, which reached No. 9. Between appearances in The Intent (2016) and The Intent 2: The Come Up (2018), Krept & Konan record two mixtapes, 7 Days with contributions from Skepta and Stormzy, then the second instalment 7 Nights with Hudson East and Tony Lanez. In 2019, they took a stand in favor of rap drill with the track "Ban Drill", at a time when the musical genre was being singled out by the authorities for its aggressive content. Next came "I Spy " with Headie One and K-Trap, which reached No. 18 and became part of the Revenge Is Sweet album, their first in four years, alongside "G Love" with Wizkid (No. 28). In 2021, a documentary was dedicated to them, Krept and Konan: We Are England, featuring the soccer anthem "Olé (We Are England)", a collaboration with M1llionz and Morrisson that reached No. 51. Another stand-alone single, "Dat Way", is produced in 2023 with Abra Cadabra and remixed by nine producers. In 2025, the track "Kilimanjaro" with Oxlade heralded the album Young Kingz II, featuring Potter Payper, Sizzla, Chip, Popcaan, Ghetts, Youngs Teflon and Tyler Daley.
