Real name Momodou Lamin Jallow (born in London on May 27, 1996), British rapper of Gambian origin J Hus experienced a difficult adolescence marked by two stints in prison, before turning to music and becoming one of the pioneers of the afroswing genre. After several independent releases, including the acclaimed "Dem Boy Paigon", in 2015 he collaborated with MoStack and released the track "Lean & Bop", which amassed over ten million views on listening platforms. The same year saw the release of The 15th Day mixtape. The following year, several of his tracks were nominated for MOBO Awards, and one of them, "Solo One", was included on the soundtrack to Noel Clarke's film Brotherhood. Released in 2017, "Did You See" reached No. 9 on the charts, earning J Hus his first platinum disc. In May of the same year, his debut album Common Sense was released, reaching No. 6. A year later comes the Big Spang EP. Arrested in June 2018 for carrying a knife, J Hus returns to prison for eight months, while his collaboration on rapper Dave's track "Disaster " is released. Released from prison in April 2019, he makes a surprise appearance at Drake's London concert. After "Daily Puppy" with GRM Daily (No. 42), his second album Big Conspiracy (2020) reaches No. 1 and its first single "Must Be" No. 5. The collection features contributions from Burna Boy on "Play Play" (no. 11), Coffee on "Repeat " (no. 21) and Ella Mai on "One and Only". Three years later, the duet "Who Told You" with Drake reached No. 2 and heralded the release of the album Beautiful and Brutal Yard (2023), which again reached No. 1 in the UK and also featured contributions from Burna Boy, Jorja Smith, Naira Marley and Popcaan. After launching his own Militér Music label, distributed by the Empire Group, J Hus releases the Half Clip EP in 2025, featuring the hits "Outside" with Skepta and "Richer " with Seyi Vibez, charting at No. 2 and No. 4 respectively in the UK Afrobeats charts.
