Biography

Kraan, a German jazz rock band, was formed in 1970 in Ulm. The group initially consisted of brothers Peter Wolbrandt and Jan Fride, who had played in various jazz bands, along with Hellmut Hattler. Johannes "Alto" Pappert joined the following year after leaving his soul-rock band. Kraan's unique sound blended jazz and rock with oriental and Asian influences. Their first album was released in 1972, followed by successful tours across Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. The album Andy Nogger (1974) sold 120,000 copies and reached number 9 on the US charts. Notable albums include Kraan Live (1975), recorded at Berlin's Quartier Latin, Let It Out (1975) and Wiederhören (1977). The band underwent several lineup changes and hiatuses but continued to release music sporadically, including the albums Psychedelic Man (2007) and Diamonds (2010). They returned in 2020 with Sandglass, followed by Zoup (2023) and All In (2026).
