Biography

Kourosh Yaghmaei, also spelled as Kourosh Yaghmaee, born December 3, 1946, in Shahrud, Semnan, Imperial State of Iran, is a singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer. He started playing music at age ten, transitioning from traditional Iranian music to the electric guitar and Western influences. In the early 1960s, he formed The Raptures, covering international acts. His solo career began in 1973 with the single "Gol-e Yakh" ("Ice Flower"), which sold over five million copies domestically, followed by the debut solo album Gol-e Yakh (1973). Throughout the 1970s, he released notable singles like "Havar Havar" ("Shout Shout") and "Khaar" (1973). Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, his music was banned in Iran. Now-Again Records released the compilation album Back from the Brink: Pre-Revolution Psychedelic Rock from Iran: 1973–1979 (2011), gaining him international recognition.
