Biography

Kon Kan is a Canadian dance project that was founded in Ottawa in 1988. The band consists of Barry Harris, born on January 1, 1964 in Ottawa, and Kevin Wynne. Barry Harris previously worked as a DJ and journalist in the club scene. In 1988, together with Kevin Wynne, he founded the Kon Kan project, which quickly gained international attention. Kon Kan moves stylistically between dance-pop, house and electronic club music. The productions incorporate elements of sampling, synthesizers and catchy hooks. In 1989, the band released the single "I Beg Your Pardon", based on a sample by Lyn Collins. The song reached number 15 in the US charts and became an international hit. In the same year, the debut album Move to Move (1989) is released, which reaches number 5 in Canada. Further singles follow with "Harry Houdini" (1989) and "Puss n' Boots/These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" (1990). In 1993, the band released their second album Syntonic (1993). The single "Sinful Wishes" accompanies the album. The commercial success falls short of the debut. In the following years, Kon Kan remained mainly active as a club act. Barry Harris also worked as a producer and remixer for other artists.
