Biography

Alphaville are a German synth-pop band formed in the north-western city of Münster in 1982 by vocalist Marian Gold and keyboard players Frank Martens, who left in 1984, and Bernhard Lloyd, who left in 2003. Other players have come and gone since then with Gold the sole original member in the current band with a line-up of guitarist David Goodes, keyboardist Carsten Brocker, bassist Alexandra Merl and drummer Jakob Kiersch. Their debut single 'Big in Japan' topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs Chart in 1984 and reached number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. They made their debut album, 'Forever Young' in 1984 and the title track peaked at number 32 on the Dance Club Chart and number 65 on the Hot 100. 'Dance With Me' (1986) hit number 22 on the Dance Club Chart and 'Red Rose' (1987) reached number 24. Other albums include 'The Breathtaking Blue' (1989), 'Prostitute' (1994), 'Salvation' (1997), 'Catching Rays On Giant' (2010) and 'Strange Attraction' (2017). Their 2018 schedul included appearances at venues in Siegburg, Hannover and Berlin.
