Biography

Kingfish is an American rock band formed in 1973 by guitarist and harmonica player Matthew Kelly and bassist Dave Torbert, along with Robbie Hoddinott, Chris Herold, and Mick Ward. The group originated from the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1974, Kingfish signed their first record contract after Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir joined the band. Weir toured with them for their first two albums, Kingfish (1976) and Live 'n' Kickin' (1977). The lineup changed frequently, and in 1979 Kelly and Torbert parted ways, with Torbert forming a new lineup. Kingfish released several notable albums including Trident (1978), Kingfish (1985), and Alive in Eighty Five (1985). The band went through various lineups, with Kelly leading tours from 1984 onwards. Kingfish released the studio album Sundown on the Forest (1999) and did not perform live again until February 2022, when a new lineup played a concert in New Jersey.
