Biography
A true child prodigy of the piano, French-born Georgian Khatia Buniatishvili (born in Batoumi on June 21, 1987) was revealed in 2008 with a 3rd prize at the Rubinstein Competition. Invited to play at the greatest festivals and on the greatest classical stages, she made her recording debut with Gidon Kremer for ECM. Then, under contract to Sony Classical, the concert artist specializing in the Romantic repertoire recorded her first recital devoted to Franz Liszt (2011). The following year saw the release of a new volume dedicated to Chopin. A regular guest at the Salle Pleyel in France and at the Victoires de la Musique awards, Khatia Buniatishvili unveils her personal pantheon on the album Motherland (2014), featuring works by sixteen different composers. The Kaleidoscope recital released in 2016 featured Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition , Ravel's Waltz and Stravinsky's Petrushka. The following year, she performed Rachmaninov's Second and Third Piano Concertos with Paavo Järvi. Adopted by France, she continues her catalog of composers with a solo program devoted to Schubert (2019), while her third recital Labyrinth (2020) unveils a wide range of compositions by Bach, Scarlatti, Satie, Glass, Ligeti, Arvo Pärt, Ennio Morricone and Serge Gainsbourg, as well as John Cage's 4'33''. One of the few classical pianists known to the general public, Khatia Buniatishvili is the muse of luxury brands, attracting a wide audience and playing to sold-out houses all over the world. Between two tours, she tackles Mozart for the first time in the Piano Concertos Nos. 20 & 23 (2024), recorded with the Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, which she conducts from the piano.
