Evgeny Sudbin is a Russian-British pianist born in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad in the Soviet Union) on April 19, 1980. He is considered one of the most brilliant performers of his generation, renowned for his virtuosity, refinement and expressive depth, particularly in the Romantic and post-romantic repertoire. Trained at an early age at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, he left Russia with his family in 1990 for Germany, then settled in London. He continued his studies at the Purcell School and then at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was taught by prestigious pianists such as Christopher Elton, Murray Perahia and Stephen Hough. Sudbin has made a name for himself with his acclaimed interpretations of Scarlatti, Chopin, Scriabin, Rachmaninov, Medtner and Beethoven, often revealing unexpected aspects with great poetic freedom. He has also composed concert transcriptions and cadenzas (notably for Mozart), testifying to his creative spirit. He regularly records for the BIS label, whose albums are acclaimed by international critics. His key recordings include Scarlatti sonatas, Rachmaninov preludes, Tchaikovsky concertos and works by Medtner, a composer he is helping to rediscover. Evgeny Sudbin plays with the greatest orchestras (Minnesota Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra...) and performs in renowned venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. At the same time, he teaches piano at London's Royal Academy of Music. He holds dual British and Swedish nationality. After the complete Beethoven concertos with Osmo Vanskä and Rachmaninov with Sakari Oramo, he recorded two recitals of Scriabin's piano works, Poem of Ecstasy / Prometheus with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lan Shui (2022) and Vers la flamme (2025), including the homonymous piece, five Preludes and Sonatas no. 4 and no. 10.
