Biography

Kenny Poole (October 5, 1947 – May 27, 2006) was an American jazz guitarist from Cincinnati. Poole began playing guitar at age 14 after hearing the Chet Atkins album Finger Style Guitar. Poole worked as a professional musician from 1966 and performed in James Brown’s band from 1970 to 1974. Throughout a career focused on Cincinnati local venues, Poole collaborated with artists including Jack McDuff, Tal Farlow, Joe Pass, Herb Ellis, and Barney Kessel. Poole specialized in bossa nova and chord melody solo playing. During the 1980s, Poole performed as a duo with guitarist Cal Collins. His discography includes the albums East Meets Midwest (1998), For George: Tribute to a Master (1999), and the live recording Heritage (2012), which featured solo performances at the Heritage Restaurant. Poole died of cancer in Cincinnati on May 27, 2006.
