Keelhaul, a progressive mathcore/sludge metal band from Cleveland, Ohio, was formed in 1998, consisting of Aaron Dallison on bass and vocals, Dana Embrose on guitar, Will Scharf on drums, and Chris Smith on guitar and vocals. The group released their self-titled debut album in 1998 through Cambodia Recordings. In 2000, they released the single "Ornamental Iron" and followed it with Keelhaul II in 2000 via Hydra Head Records. The band's third album, Subject to Change Without Notice, was released in 2003 and featured a collaboration with Bryant Clifford Meyer of Isis on the track "Randall". Keelhaul toured Europe in April 2004 and subsequently took an extended break before resuming live activities in December 2008. They released their fourth album, Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity, in 2009, supported by the single "You Waited Five Years for This?".
