Kazuo Imai, born September 24, 1955 in Kawasaki, Japan, is a guitarist known for his work in free improvisation. He studied under Takehisa Kosugi and Masayuki Takayanagi, participating in the East Bionic Symphonia collective performance in 1976. Imai released his solo album How Will We Change? in 1995. He collaborated with numerous musicians, including Lee Konitz, Barre Phillips, and Han Bennink. In 1997, he reformed the East Bionic Symphonia group as Marginal Consort, performing annually since then. Notable releases include Far and Wee (2004).
