Biography

Katie Lee was an American folk singer and actress born as Kathryn Louise Lee on 23 October 1919 in Aledo, Illinois,. She achieved professional recognition for a musical style and activism focused on the Colorado River, having studied with folk singers Burl Ives and Josh White,. Her recording career included the studio recordings Songs of Couch and Consultation (1957) and Life Is Just a Bed of Neuroses (1960). In 1964, she released the studio recording Folk Songs of the Colorado River. Known by the nickname âDesert Goddess of Glen Canyon,â Lee opposed the damming of the Colorado River,. Her discography included the studio recordings Love's Little Sisters (1975) and Colorado River Songs (1976). She was inducted into the Arizona Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Lee died on 1 November 2017.
