Karmacoda, an electronic band based in San Francisco, California, was formed in 2000 by singer/guitarist Brett Crockett and singer Heather Pierce. The group's name was inspired by the song "Karmacoma" by Massive Attack. Their debut album, Reco Mended, was released in 2001 before they had performed live. Drummer Bruce Fulford left the group, and Rafael Acevedo joined as a DJ. The band's second album, Evidence, was released in 2003, showcasing influences from soul music. In early 2004, their song "Swan" won Best Film/TV Song at the Independent Music Awards. Bassist Brian Templeton departed and was replaced by Eric Matsuno. Heather Pierce left Karmacoda in 2012 to focus on her teaching career. The band released Love and Fate Volume One in 2015 featuring various guest vocalists; Jessica Ford subsequently joined as the permanent lead singer for later releases such as Intimate (2018).
