Earthling was formed in Bristol, England, by producer Andy Keep, rapper Tim Saul, and multiâinstrumentalist Mau, who together crafted a distinctive blend of electronic music and trip hop. The groupâs debut single, "First Transmission", was released in 1995 on Cooltempo and introduced their experimental sound to the UK club scene. In the same year, Earthling issued the EP Blood Music and later that year launched their first fullâlength album, Radar, which reached Number 66 on the UK Albums Chart and featured scratching by Geoff Barrow of Portishead on three tracks. In 1997, the band released Humandust, initially shelved until 2004, further establishing their underground credibility. After a brief period of activity, the group disbanded, with members pursuing separate projects: Saul composed for documentaries, Mau joined Dirty Beatniks and appeared on Télépopmusik releases, and Keep taught at Bath Spa University. Earthling reunited in 2008 and issued Insomniac's Ball on Bandcamp in 2011, marking their final collective output.
