Karen Kong (December 7, 1984), aka Gong Keyun, is a Malaysian-Chinese singer and actress from Labuan Island. Her first public appearance dates back to 2004, when she became a contestant on the music reality show Malaysian Idol. Despite being eliminated in the first round, Karen Kong embarked on a successful solo career a few years later, releasing her debut EP in 2007, which contained the radio hits âCinta Hello Kittyâ and âKu Tak Upaya,â both penned by fellow Malay songwriter Asmin Mudin. A full-length titled Mulakan also saw the light in 2007 and included her first couple of singles plus the track âNa Na Na Nada Cinta,â a remake of Toshinobu Kubotaâs âLa La La Love.â That same year, she also became the first Malaysian artist to ever hold a web concert and crossed over to the Mandarin market with an album titled Showtime. In 2009, her label Universal Music decided to relaunch her career in Taiwan with the full-length Iâm Karen, which featured the single âAEIOU,â a Chinese cover of The Ting Tingsâ âGreat DJ.â In the following years, Karen Kong delivered a handful of singles in both Mandarin and Cantonese such as âBe Myselfâ (2012), âWhen I Donât Love Youâ (2014), âSay the Wordâ (2019), and âIn the Blink of an Eyeâ (2021), her first single after signing with Hong Kongâs Tianmeng Entertainment.
