Biography

Karen Kong (December 7, 1984), aka Gong Keyun, is a Malaysian-Chinese singer and actress from Labuan Island. Her first public appearance dates back to 2004, when she became a contestant on the music reality show Malaysian Idol. Despite being eliminated in the first round, Karen Kong embarked on a successful solo career a few years later, releasing her debut EP in 2007, which contained the radio hits “Cinta Hello Kitty” and “Ku Tak Upaya,” both penned by fellow Malay songwriter Asmin Mudin. A full-length titled Mulakan also saw the light in 2007 and included her first couple of singles plus the track “Na Na Na Nada Cinta,” a remake of Toshinobu Kubota’s “La La La Love.” That same year, she also became the first Malaysian artist to ever hold a web concert and crossed over to the Mandarin market with an album titled Showtime. In 2009, her label Universal Music decided to relaunch her career in Taiwan with the full-length I’m Karen, which featured the single “AEIOU,” a Chinese cover of The Ting Tings’ “Great DJ.” In the following years, Karen Kong delivered a handful of singles in both Mandarin and Cantonese such as “Be Myself” (2012), “When I Don’t Love You” (2014), “Say the Word” (2019), and “In the Blink of an Eye” (2021), her first single after signing with Hong Kong’s Tianmeng Entertainment.
