Warrick Sony is a South African composer, producer, and musician who was born in 1958. He is the founder and sole permanent member of the Kalahari Surfers, an ensemble famous for making politically radical and satirical music in 1980s South Africa. Sony began a musical career performing covers of Jimi Hendrix and The Who during his youth. His debut release was the home-recorded cassette Gross National Products (1982), which achieved critical attention. He reached a professional breakthrough with the studio album Own Affairs (1984), released through Recommended Records. His discography includes the recordings Living in the Heart of the Beast (1985) and Sleep Armed (1987). In 1989, Sony performed in the Soviet Union and released the studio album Bigger Than Jesus (1989), which was initially banned before being released under the title Beachbomb. His later work includes the studio recordings Akasic Record (2001), One Party State (2010), and Agitprop (2012).
