Biography

Juana Rosario Molina Villafañe, known as Juana Molina, was born on October 1, 1961, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a singer-songwriter and former actress. Molina She began her career as an actress in the late 1980s, achieving fame through sketch comedy shows such as Juana y Sus Hermanas. In 1996, she released her debut album, Rara, which marked her transition into music. Despite initial criticism, Juana Molina moved to Los Angeles and familiarized herself with electronic instruments, leading to the release of her second album, Segundo, in 2000. Her subsequent albums, including Son (2006), Wed 21 (2013), and Halo (2017), showcased her evolving sound, blending electronic music with folk elements. Juana Molina's work has been critically acclaimed, earning her recognition as a pioneer in folktronica and experimental genres. The live recording ANRMAL (2020), captured at Mexico’s NRMAL Festival, revealed the raw energy of her stage work. In 2024 she released the EP EXHALO and followed on November 5, 2025 with the analog-rich album Doga on her Sonamos imprint, led by the single “Siestas Ahí,” co-created with Odín Schwartz and producer Emilio Haro.
