Biography

Jowall, born 조영상 in Seoul in 1979, is a South Korean rock singer. He first emerged as a member of the shoegaze band Underwear Band in 2000 and later co‑founded the electronica group Byul.org with his brother Jo Taesang in 2001. Jowall launched his solo career in 2009, releasing the debut album Things You Are Going to See Here on 20 May 2009. He followed with Clean & Clear on 1 January 2013, a project noted for its refined low‑fi textures, and To Celebrate Nothing on 23 June 2020. In 2015 he collaborated with Choi Taehyeon on Mirror and Corpse, and in 2023 issued the single "Snowdrift" featuring Lee Taehoon. In 2024, he released another single "Your Love as My Pretext". His work has earned critical acclaim within South Korea’s post‑rock and shoegaze scenes, though no commercial chart positions or awards are recorded.
