Biography
Joseito Fernandez, born Jose Fernández Diaz on September 5, 1908 in Los Sitios, Havana, Cuba, was a Cuban performer and composer. He began singing at a young age and started his career with various musical groups. In 1935, he performed "Guajira Guantanamera" daily on radio CMCO. The song became his most famous work, though its composition is attributed to Herminio GarcÃa Wilson. In 1941, Fernandez recorded the song for RCA VÃctor under the titles Guardabarreras and Mi biografia. Despite numerous offers to leave Cuba, Fernandez remained in his homeland until his death on October 11, 1979. His residence became a museum after his passing, preserving his legacy as a key figure in Cuban music.
