Johnny McEvoy, born John McEvoy on April 24, 1945, in Banagher, is an Irish folk singer and songwriter. He worked as a graphic designer before starting a career in music. In 1966, McEvoy released the single âMuirsheen Durkinâ, which reached Number 1 on the Irish charts. This was followed by the recordings âThe Boston Burglarâ and âNoraâ, which also reached Number 1. McEvoy performed in the United States at Carnegie Hall and formed the Johnny McEvoy Band in 1970. He composed songs such as âLong Before Your Timeâ, âMichaelâ, and âThe Ballad of Anne Frankâ. Following a hiatus during the illness of his wife, Odette, who died in 2013, he released the studio album Basement Sessions 1 in 2014 and Basement Sessions 2 in 2015. He authored the book My Songs, My Stories, My Life in Music in 2017.
