John Frank Tesh Jr. was born in 1952 in Garden City, New York, and is known as a pianist and musician. He began playing piano and trumpet at age six and was named to the New York State Symphonic Orchestra during high school. In 1987, John Tesh joined Yanni's touring band for a brief period, which marked his first live performance experience. This led to him signing his first recording contract with Private Music. In 1994, he performed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, featuring the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and notable gymnasts Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner. Tesh's notable works include "Roundball Rock", the theme for NBA on NBC, which was composed after recording an initial beat vocally on his answering machine. He has released numerous albums including Sax by the Fire (1994), Forever More: The Greatest Hits Of John Tesh (2000), and The Power Of Love (2002). His live concerts have raised over seven million dollars for PBS, and he has won six Emmys, received two Grammy nominations, and an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. In 2018, Tesh was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
