Biography

John McSherry was an Irish musician from Belfast known for his skill on the Irish flute and whistle. He won two titles at the Fleadh Cheoil de Irlanda by age 15 and became the youngest winner of the 'Oireachtas' competition at 18. In 1995, he co-founded Lúnasa with Seán Smyth, Michael McGoldrick, and Steve Cooney, releasing their debut album Lúnasa Live in 1996. He also played a key role in bands like Tamalin, Coolfin, and At First Light. McSherry's solo work includes the album The Seven Suns. His contributions to the music industry were recognized with awards, including the Irish American News' best traditional album of 2001 for At First Light with Michael McGoldrick. Throughout his career, he performed worldwide in various ensembles and as a solo artist.
