Biography

A classically trained musician, Joby Talbot wrote the arrangements for The Divine Comedy, and has a parallel career as a composer for television and film. Born in Wimbledon on August 25, 1971, Joby Talbot studied music at the highest level, graduating with a Master's degree in composition from London's Guildhall School. Composer of the series The League of Gentlemen (1999-2002) and the film based on it, he has written numerous scores for feature films, as well as works for the stage, including the ballet The Dying Swan (2002) and orchestral and choral pieces: Once Around the Sun (2005), The Path of Miracles (2005), Tide Harmonic (2009), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (2012). In 2007, he collaborated with electro musician Deru on the ballet Genus for the Paris Opera. In addition to his compositions for the films The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Arctic Tale (2007), Penelope (2008) and Franklyn (2008), his main success is the music for the animated film Tous en Scène(Sing, 2016), which will be followed by Sing 2 in 2021. Joby Talbot also composed the opera Everest, premiered on stage in 2015. In 2023, he teamed up again with Neil Hannon to compose the songs for the musical Wonka, featuring contributions from Timothée Chalamet and Hugh Grant.
