Biography

Dave Porter is an American composer for film and television. He developed an interest in music at a very early age, training on classical piano at the age of 5, then developing an interest in electronic music in his teens. He went on to study classical and electronic music composition at Sarah Lawrence College, then beginning his career as an assistant in the recording studio of legendary composer Philip Glass, in New York City. After relocating to Los Angeles, Dave Porter developed an impressive body of work, working on the original music for shows such as The Blacklist, Preacher, and 30 for 30; as well as movies such as The Disaster Artist, Term Life, and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. In 2008, Dave Porter began collaborating with writer and producer Vince Gilligan on his hit TV series Breaking Bad and later participated in the similarly successful spinoff Better Call Saul, both of which prominently feature his original compositions. The show's theme song, “Breaking Bad Main Title Theme,” has been acclaimed by the press as one of the most iconic and instantly recognizable theme songs in television history. Dave Porter has twice been awarded ASCAP’s Composer’s Choice Award for Best Television Composer, in 2013 and then again in 2017.
