Biography

Joachim Govin, born on April 27, 1984, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, is a jazz double bassist and composer. His father, Pierre-Olivier Govin, a saxophonist, introduced him to jazz music. Initially trained on the electric bass, Govin transitioned to the double bass after a master class with guitarist Éric Löhrer. He studied at the American School of Modern Music from 2005 to 2008 and completed his training at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris in 2008. Early in his career, Govin played with notable artists such as Didier Lockwood and Thomas Enhco, earning recognition for his maturity and skill. In 2015, he released his debut solo album Elements under Fresh Sound New Talent. Subsequent albums include Present (2020) and Tree (2021). Govin has collaborated with various artists, including Ben van Gelder, Tony Tixier, and Gautier Garrigue, and has performed internationally.
