Joel Adams, known professionally as Jo Jo Adams, and born in rural Alabama around 1918, was a jump blues singer. He began his career singing with the Big Four Gospel Jubilee Singers before moving to Chicago in the early 1940s. There, he adopted a style derivative of Cab Calloway and performed in clubs on the South Side. Adams made his first recording, "Jo Jo Blues", in 1946 for Melody Lane. He also recorded for Hy-Tone with guitarist Floyd Smith, including the song "When I'm In My Tea" and for Aladdin with Maxwell Davis' band. He also appeared in the 1949 film Burlesque in Harlem and performed regularly with Memphis Slim and Terry Timmons. His last recordings were made in 1952 and 1953 for Chance and Parrot labels. Adams died in Chicago on February 27, 1988.
