JJerome87 is the stage name of Joe Newman, the singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the band Alt-J. Born on October 6, 1987, he attended the University of Leeds, where he met his future bandmates in Alt-J, which formed in 2007. Following their Mercury Prize-winning debut album, An Awesome Wave (2012), Alt-J released three more albums: This Is All Yours (2014), Relaxer (2017), and The Dream (2022). Joe Newman then decided to launch a solo career under the name JJerome87 and released his debut album, The Canyon, in December 2025. Initially released on his website, The Canyon became available on digital platforms in June 2026, alongside the singles âBrush Me Like a Horseâ, âTrack and Fieldâ, âMr. Alligatorâ, and âGreen Velvetâ.
