Biography

After forming the band The Recoys with Peter Matthew Bauer in 1996 and being the lead singer and guitarist of The Walkmen between 2000 and 2014, songwriter Hamilton Leithauser has embarked on a solo career. Born in Washington D.C. on April 15, 1978, he embarked on a tour and released his first personal album Black Hours (2014), in which he surrounded himself with musicians from the bands Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, Fleet Foxes and The Shins. Songs written with long-time friend Paul Maroon are followed by a joint album, Dear God (2015), then another association with Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij, whom he reunites with for I Had a Dream That You Were Mine (2016) and a radio session released the following year, Live at KCRW. In 2020, The Loves of Your Life is released on the Glassnote label, to critical acclaim. The tour that followed resulted in the live album Live! At Café Carlyle. In 2025, the single "Knockin' Heart" is the first single from the album This Side of the Island, produced with his wife Anna Stumpf and Bryce Dessner.
