Jihae Kim, known mononymously as Jihae, is a South Korean singer, actress, and model born on February 7, 1989, in Seoul. As the daughter of a diplomat, she spent her childhood in Nigeria and Sweden before moving to the U.S. to study political science at Emory University. Jihae began her career in fashion, modeling for brands such as Eileen Fisher, before transitioning into music in 2007 with her debut album My Heart Is an Elephant. The album featured collaborations with renowned artists like filmmaker Michel Gondry and musician Lenny Kravitz. Over the years, Jihae released four full-length albums, including Elvis Is Still Alive (2008) and Illusion of You (2015), the latter co-produced with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and featuring contributions from Leonard Cohen. In 2009, she founded her own music label, Septem. As an actress, Jihae made her breakthrough portraying twin sisters in the National Geographic miniseries Mars (2016), followed by a role as Anna Fang in the 2018 sci-fi film Mortal Engines. She also appeared in Netflix's Altered Carbon and HBO's Succession.
