P. Jayachandran, born on March 3, 1944, in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, India, was an Indian playback singer known for his extensive contributions to the music industry. He began his musical journey as a student of the National High School, where he excelled in playing the mridangam and light music. Jayachandran's career took off when he met K. J. Yesudas in 1958 at the state youth festival, winning the Best Mridangist award. His breakthrough came with the song "Anuragaganam pole" from the film Udhyogastha in 1967. Throughout his career, Jayachandran collaborated with numerous composers and recorded over 16,000 songs in multiple languages. He won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 1985 for "Sivasankara Sarva Saranya Vibho" from Sree Narayana Guru and received five Kerala State Film Awards. Jayachandran passed away on January 9, 2025, in Thrissur, Kerala, at the age of 80.
