Jansen Barbieri Karn, an English band formed in 1993, consisted of Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, and Mick Karn. The trio, former members of Japan and Rain Tree Crow, established their own label, Medium Productions, to continue collaborating without industry pressure. The band's music blended experimental, ambient, and progressive art rock with electronic influences. Their debut release was the album Beginning to Melt (1993). In 1994, they released Seed, followed by Playing in a Room with People in 2001. Notable collaborations included Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, Rob Dean, Aziz Ibrahim, David Torn, Sugizo, Masami Tsuchiya, Theo Travis, Zoe Niblett, and Robby Aceto.
