James Gruntz, born Jonas Gruntz on July 16, 1987, in Bern, Switzerland, is a singer-songwriter. Raised in Nidau am Bielersee, he learned to play drums and trumpet before focusing on keyboard and vocals. At 16, Gruntz moved to Basel and released his first self-produced album, James Gruntz, in 2007. He studied at the Zurich Jazz School from 2008 to 2013. In 2009, Gruntz won the Newcomer competition at m4music with "Song to the Sea" and collaborated with various artists. His album Until We Get There (2011) reached number 28 in the Swiss charts. In 2014, his album Belvedere (2014) reached number 7 on the Swiss charts, featuring the hit single "Heart Keeps Dancing". Gruntz won the Basler Pop Prize and received the Best Breaking Act award and Artist Award at the Swiss Music Awards in 2015.
