Karen Souza, born on 10 January 1984 in La Pampa, Argentina, is an Argentinian jazz and bossa nova singer whose career began under various pseudonyms providing vocal support to electronic producers and recording jazz-infused covers of pop and rock hits such as âCreepâ and âPersonal Jesusâ. Her breakthrough came with the 2011 release of the album Essentials, followed by the 2012 studio album Hotel Souza after months spent in Los Angeles writing with Pam Oland and recording with producer Joel McNeely; the album was released by Music Brokers and later issued in Japan by JVC Victor, where she performed at the Blue Note Tokyo. Subsequent releases include Essentials II (2014), Velvet Vault(2017), and Language of Love (2020). Singles such as âFeels So Goodâ and her renditions of âDonât Let the Sun Go Down on Meâ expanded her repertoire beyond 1980s jazz standards. Souza toured extensively across Latin America, performing in Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico, and has received recognition for her interpretations of contemporary jazz. Her discography showcases a steady output of albums and singles, cementing her status as a prominent figure in vocal jazz.
