Biography

Jagdish Prasad was an Indian classical vocalist from Calcutta, born in 1937. He began his musical journey under the tutelage of his father, Badri Prasad, and later studied with Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Prasad's career took off when he joined the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 1977 as a musician-scholar. He subsequently became a lecturer at Khairagarh University in Madhya Pradesh and was a top-grade artist for All India Radio. Throughout his career, Prasad performed extensively across India and internationally, touring countries like the US, Canada, the UK, and several parts of Europe. His notable album releases include Laaj Rakho Mori (1995), In Rare Moods (2009), and posthumous works such as Shraddhanjali: Jagdish Prasad (2011) and Jewel of Jewels (2012). In 1991, he was awarded the civilian honor, Padma Shri. Prasad passed away on July 18, 2011, leaving behind a rich musical legacy continued by his son Samrat Pandit.
