Biography

Jacques Pierre Pellen, born on April 9, 1957, in Brest, France, was a guitarist and composer known for blending jazz with traditional Breton music. He began studying classical guitar at age twelve, quickly drawn to both jazz and Celtic sounds. Pellen's career took off when he started playing with local groups before transitioning to collaborations with notable artists such as Peter Gritz, Kenny Wheeler, and Henri Texier. In 1986, he formed a trio with Gildas Scouarnec and Peter Gritz, and in 1988, he created Celtic Procession, a collective that fused jazz with Celtic themes. This group released their debut album Celtic Prosession in 1992. Pellen also collaborated extensively with Dan Ar Braz. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he released several albums, including Lament for the Children (2007) and Offshore (2011). He continued to perform until his death on April 21, 2020, in Brest.
