Joakim Jan Aril "Jack" Berntsen, born on October 14, 1940, in Kjøpsvik, Tysfjord Municipality, Norway, was a Norwegian singer-songwriter known for his contributions to folk music. He grew up in Hamarøy Municipality and resided in Svolvær from 1968. Berntsen founded the Svolvær folk song club Lovisa in 1968. His breakthrough came with his first album, Det e håp i hænganes snøre, released in 1978, which included politically charged songs. Notable works include "Kor e hammaren, Edvard" (1974), a protest song about the population decline of Northern Norway. Berntsen received numerous awards, such as the Sølvharpa in 1975 and Nordland's cultural prize in 1981. He passed away on October 5, 2010.
