Biography

IZA is the stage name of Brazilian R&B singer Isabela Cristina Correia de Lima Lima, born in Rio de Janeiro on September 3, 1990. The daughter of a music teacher and a navy officer, she grew up in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, where she began performing at her local church. Upon her return to Rio de Janeiro at the age of 18, she studied advertising at the city's Pontifical Catholic University and rose to online fame in 2015 by posting covers of Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Sam Smith songs on her video-streaming channel. After getting signed by Warner Music Brazil in 2016, IZA made her official debut with the single "Te Pegar" (2017), followed by the Marcelo Falcão duet "Pesadão" later that year. Peaking at Number 41 on the Brazilian charts, the latter served as the lead single from her studio debut Dona de Mim, which saw the light in April 2018. Apart from earning IZA her first Latin Grammy nomination in the Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album category, Dona de Mim also spawned the promotional singles "Ginga" with Rincon Sapiência and the title track, which reached Number 62 and 69, respectively. Over the next few years, IZA collaborated with world-renowned producers such as the DJ trio Major Lazer (2019's "Evapora") and Timbaland (2020's "Bend the Knee") before resuming her solo endeavors in 2021 with the singles "Gueto" and "Sem Filtro." In 2022, she featured on the track "Me Perdoa," a collaborative effort with samba and pagode artist Ferrugem. Her second studio album Afrodhit arrived on August 3, 2023, recasting her R&B/pop palette with guests including Djonga, L7nnon, MC Carol, Russo Passapusso and Tiwa Savage, after she famously scrapped a previous version earlier that year. In 2024, she launched her Carnaval street parade Bloco Bonde Pesadão in São Paulo and welcomed her first child, Nala, on October 13, before returning to major stages in 2025 with a high-profile set at The Town festival in São Paulo. She also contributed the original single “Doce Feito Caramelo” to Netflix’s Brazilian film Caramelo—released October 8, 2025 via Netflix Music/Warner Music Brasil.
