Ivo Perelman, born on January 12, 1961 in São Paulo, Brazil, is a Brazilian free jazz saxophonist. He learned multiple instruments in his youth before focusing on tenor saxophone at age 19. After attending the Berklee College of Music briefly, Perelman moved to Los Angeles and released his debut album Ivo in 1989. Following this, he relocated to New York City and continued his career, releasing numerous albums. including The Children of Ibeji (1991) and Sad Life (1997). Perelman has collaborated with notable artists such as Matthew Shipp and William Parker. He founded Ibeji Records in 1994 to record his own work, releasing over 50 albums, including The Alexander Suite (1998).
