Guadalcanal Diary was an American alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Marietta, Georgia. The group gained attention through live shows in the Athens and Atlanta music scenes. The band signed with DB Records in 1984 and released their debut full-length album, Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man, which received critical acclaim and significant airplay on US college radio stations. In 1985, they were signed by Elektra Records and re-released their debut album before issuing Jamboree in 1986. Their third album, 2X4, released in 1987, became their most successful to date, featuring the minor alternative rock hit “Litany (Life Goes On)”.
